The Real Shop Owner
Every family business has someone who thinks they are in charge, and for us, that’s Smokey.
Smokey is our much-loved dog, unofficial supervisor, and the real boss behind Floral on Main. While Nicole and Justin handle the flowers, plants, gifts, and daily shop details, Smokey brings the charm, moral support, and occasional side-eye that keeps everyone on track.
Our Story
Floral on Main is locally owned by Nicole and Justin Engberg, two plant and flower people who found their way into the floral world in the most honest way possible: covered in dirt, chasing a dream, and saying yes before overthinking it.
For the last few years, Nicole and Justin have been slowly transforming their own yard into a place filled with plants, flowers, color, and pollinators. Bringing plants indoors became part of how they created joy at home, and they loved the idea of building something that could bring that same feeling to others.
One afternoon in July, just before the shop closed for the day, Nicole sent Justin a post from Jennifer about Main Street Floral being for sale. Justin was outside working in the yard, but he jumped in the car, still dirty, drove downtown, walked into the shop, and said something along the lines of, “I know you’re closing soon, but I think I’d like to buy the business.”
And honestly, from the moment Nicole sent that screenshot, they knew.
They both grew up just a few towns over in Chanhassen, but Waconia became home when Justin was getting out of the Navy and they were moving back to Minnesota from California to be near family and raise their little girl. They had two weeks to find a house, and somehow they found Waconia. Ever since, they have been in love with this town.
Waconia has small-town charm with big character. It is the kind of place where neighbors know each other, people show up for one another, and community still means something. From Nickle Dickle Day to the Carver County Fair and all the little moments in between, Nicole and Justin are all in on Waconia.
That is why this shop felt right. It was more than just a business opportunity. It was a chance to be part of something local, creative, and community-centered.
Nicole has always been a giver, a caretaker, and someone who naturally makes people feel welcome. She has a heart for people, family, flowers, and this town. Justin brings the behind-the-scenes energy, big ideas, and a deep belief that local businesses help keep a community strong. Nicole is involved with the DandyLions, and Justin recently joined the Lions Club, because being part of Waconia matters to them.
They are grateful for the legacy Jennifer built and cared for, and they are honored to continue that tradition while adding their own personalities, ideas, and love for this community.
Their hope is that when you walk into Floral on Main, you feel like you are part of something familiar, friendly, and rooted right here in Waconia.
They are excited to bring you flowers, plants, gifts, workshops, community events, and everything else this little shop can grow into.
Nicole and Justin are proud to be rooted in Waconia.
